Current Research Area:

  • Developing sustainable strategies and alternatives for safe management of wastewater and phyto-remediation of metal contaminated soil and water.

  • Diagnosis and definition of salt affected soils in Indo-Gangetic plains and development of agro-interventions for their sustainable management in farmers’ participatory appraisal.

  • Rehabilitation of salt affected dry lands through biosaline agro-forestry and un-explored industrial plants.

Qualifications:

M.Sc (Ag.) Agonomy

Ph.D Agronomy

Major Research Accomplishments:

  • Establishment of the salinity limits of the drainage effluents for their in-situ recycling in cyclic mode irrigations to optimize yield and quality of less water requiring salt tolerant food, fodder and oil seed crops of semi-arid regions hyperthermic Ustipsamments and calcareous sandy loam Ustic Haplocambids

  • Evaluated the dual purpose (green fodder and grain) potential of barley in saline conditions and worked out its nitrogen and saline water irrigation requirements for successful cultivation.

  • Temporal and spatial quantification and characterization of wastewater generated in Haryana

  • Documented the temporal scale transpiration rate and carrying capacity of HRTS Eucalyptus plantations planted at different densities and irrigated with sewage for planning the safe disposal of sewage and optimizing growth, wood volume and biomass production of trees and understory companion crops

  • Overall and stage dependant tolerance limits of organic load in water used for irrigation of rice and wheat has been assessed for management of distillery effluents in the cropping system

  • Irrigation and nutrient supplementing potential of sewage to vegetable, fodder, cereal and agro-forestry production systems and impacts of its use on soil properties have been assessed.

  • Benefits and hazards of wastewater irrigation and its effects on composition of soils, crops and ground water have been also established through case studies

  • Remunerative alternative crops have been identified and evaluated for avoiding food chain contamination and phyto-remediation of metal contaminated soils.

  • Prevalence of pathogenic contamination in sewage irrigated vegetable, forage and grain crops has been assessed, and technologies as sub-surface drip irrigation and some other low cost cultivation methods and other practices for the control have been standardized

  • Agronomic practices for perspective land use planning based on soil characteristics and suitability have been identified to optimize the use of soil resources of 500 ha Behdala (Una, HP) watershed

Awards:

  • National groundwater Augmentation Award of MoWR, GOI, New Delhi for the year 2009
  • Ganesh Sankar Vidyarthi Puruskar for the years 2009 and 2010 for Best Hindi Magazine
