Major Research Accomplishments:

Resource characterization of soils and ground water and other biophysical parameters of the Sardar Sarovar canal command area and different watersheds in Gujarat.

Land use planning for Sardar Sarovar Canal command on the basis of Soil-site suitability classification (Land Evaluation), and rainfall pattern analysis
-
Prognostic study on the impact of Sardar Sarovar Canal irrigation on ground water depth and quality, upward flux of subsoil salt was carried out.

Developed guidelines to group sodic Vertisols under different salinities and textural composition.
-
Developed guidelines to use underground saline water in conjunction with surface water for different crops like wheat, mustard, dill, safflower etc. The critical/sensitive stages for saline water irrigation for these crops were identified.

Developed guidelines for use of treated industrial effluent from fertilizer industry for agricultural use.

Developed package of practices for growing highly salt tolerant and Industrial important species Salvadora persica- on highly salt affected soils and also developed a bankable model by NABARD based on our technology by providing financial assistance.

By using geo-statistics and cartographic technique Spatial variability analysis and mapping was done for different properties (Boron, soil salinity, groundwater quality, pH, CaCO3 and organic matter content) of soils of Sardar Sarovar canal command area of Gujarat.

Different species of fodder grass were evaluated for its salt tolerance using poor quality irrigation waters

Soil resource inventory and mapping of the CSSRI, RRS Experimental farm, Samni was carried out by doing detailed soil survey of the farm.

Package of practices for cultivation of highly salt tolerant industrial important halophyte-Salvadora persica.

Package of practices for cultivation of moderately salt tolerant seed spice crop-dill (Anethum graveolens) on salt affected black soils.

Suitable model comprising of fruit crops, vegetables, spices and multipurpose trees was developed for the saline black soils of the Bara tract area of Gujarat where farmers are resource poor and scarcity of good quality waters.
